2007 Round 8

Tipping competitions >>

Surprise, surprise, Collingwood has just confirmed that Nathan Buckley has been appointed captain for the season.

As the Crazy Fool was gallivanting across New Zealand last week Digger did not post.  I want to go back and again have a real go at Commandant Andrew and Sargeant Anderson over the betting scandal that has rocked the AFL.  Rocked like a baby in a cradle.

How can the AFL "out" players for having $10 best on the Norm Smith medal winner and Brownlow winner.  Are they mistrusting the umpires in the case of the Brownlow and how can a player have inside knowledge on a game that is yet to be played.  So, two of the 4 players named may have serious gambling problems, but the other 2 are being treated like pariahs for $10 bets.  Yet, you do not get "outed" until you produce 3 positive drug tests.  The AFL, run by wankers, that is all I will say.

Recently appointed Carlton captain, Lance Whitnall, was in court today taking out an intervention order against his brother and sister-in-law.  Not sure what is all about but detective Digger will find out more information.

Weagle, Daniel Kerr, has been drinking again and appears to have serious problem with the grog.  A bit of S&M outside a Perth hospital when he whipped a taxi driver with the aerial that he broke of the cab.  Digger wonders what would happen to Kerr if he was not such a good player.  Two court appearances this week for the Weagle.

Why is it that Carlton, the wooden spooner and the West Coast, the reigning premier seem to be always in the news for the wrong reasons.  Must be some juicy gossip from the clubs in between or are the othes better at keeping things in house.

Last week saw the first round of the ho hum pre-season cup and here are the results.

Port Adelaide defeated Adelaide

Kangaroos defeated Collingwood

Western Bulldogs defeated Sydney

Carlton defeated Essendon

Brisbane defeated St. Kilda

Geelong defeated Richmond

Hawthorn defeated Melbourne

Fremantle defeated West Coast

This weeks second rounds sees,

Western Bulldogs V Brisbane - Digger says the Bulldogs to win

Hawthorn V Carlton - Digger says Hawthorn to win

Geelong V Port Adelaide - Digger says Geelong to win

Kangaroos V Fremantle - Digger says Kangaroos to win

One for the Fisherman - yes, Jarryd Rooke of the cats has changed his name to Max Rooke.

A quick reminder that the Crazy Fools News Round AFL tipping competition will be running in season 2007.  Let Digger know at diggerafl@yahoo.com.au if you want to part of this momentous event.  This year we hope to have the same old experts back and hopefully a couple of new experts bringing their punting skills to the fore.

To help you with your selections for the season next week Digger will commence his preview of the clubs next week.

The AFL knockout competition will also be back bigger and better than ever and we hope to attract a huge field.  Full details will be forthcoming.

Until next week,

Digger
